QED 250+ RACE ENGINE
These are our ultimate race engines with steel internals and our most aggressive cam profiles. Again this is a template which has numerous variations, for example it forms the basis of our methanol burning hillclimb engines. A base unit is rebuilt for ultimate bottom end strength. Forged pistons, steel crank and steel rods are standard at this level of engine tuning and with our own design of ultralight steel flywheel these engines will routinely rev to 8500 rpm. A DTA engine management system is fitted to control a twin coil for wasted spark, distributorless ignition as well as fuel injection through a set of our 45mm bore, direct to head throttle bodies. The DTA system uses a 3D mapping strategy, making it sensitive to engine load as well as speed. The ECU also makes adjustments for transient fuelling (under acceleration) and compensates for changes in air and water temperature. As an option the system can also compensate for changes in altitude by measuring barometric pressure. Choice of cams depending on usage, typically .45" lift, 305 period taking advantage of the deeper valve pockets and raised CR from the forged pistons. Porting work is extensive and valves are either our oversize, wasted stem or 5mm narrow stem versions. The completed engine is run in on our dynamometer and checked over. It is then fully mapped and power tested (a graph showing power figures is supplied with the engine - see below for a typical example). | ||||
