Reliable ignition is a basic requirement for any engine. In it's original
form the Vauxhall XE uses a single ignition coil, fired electronically
but with the spark then directed through a 'distributor' mounted on
the back of the exhaust camshaft.
This 'distributor' means that the original ignition system has many
of the mechanical weaknesses associated with a real distributor and
does not deliver sufficient spark energy for reliable ignition in a
high compression, high speed race engine.
In the very last of the production units Vauxhall replaced the standard
single coil/distributor with a wasted spark twin coil unit and we highly
recommend doing exactly the same.
Twin
Coil Ignition Pack
The twin coil pack that we supply is a well proven unit in common use
on many production cars. It is also one of the ignition coils regularly
recommended by aftermarket engine management specialists including our
recommended suppliers, DTA.
Distributor Blanking Kit
With a twin coil fitted the original 'distributor' should be removed
and blanked off. This can also make for a much more convenient fitment
in an engine bay with limited space.
